Article the Seventh — Of the Second Door
Whereas the Fore is entered by two doors and no third, the one by working and the one by making, and the first is written elsewhere in this instrument;
Be it set down that the second door stands wherever a maker sets down a made thing and asks nothing for it, and that it is kept for the Fore by a keeper of the Fore’s choosing, who shall pour, and shall not judge.
That the made thing shall be received sealed, and filed unread by one appointed to file, and shall be fed to this instrument or held against it, at her discretion and by no rule the maker may learn.
That the maker, having crossed, shall be counted among those who keep, which is a title and not a wage, and confers no advantage in any contest of the Fore, and may not be sold, lent, or inherited.
That the keeper of the second door shall give to every maker who crosses one thing to drink and one thing to laugh at, and that these are gifts and not consideration, and bind nobody.
That no maker is asked to stay, and none who crosses returns to sit, and that the door is small because a door is meant to be.

IV — The Emperor
Enthroned in a storm. A fit man of fifty, silver-grey hair swept back, thick beard, crisp white shirt under a charcoal pinstripe waistcoat, blue eyes that flash, a wolfish grin that is not friendly. A great tree, lightning, a mastiff at his feet, a cracked dark orb in one hand. Light: apple gold — the light that unmakes — worn like a coat of order. Numeral IV. Do not make him old, heavy, or grim.
